More About Michael:

Michael Lucas is an American performer, director, activist, columnist and documentary filmmaker, and one of the world’s best-known entrepreneurs in the field of adult entertainment. In a career that has spanned more than 20 years, he has built a powerful presence in the adult industry and beyond.

Born in Moscow in 1972 to an engineer and a linguist, Lucas overcame the challenges of growing up gay and Jewish amid the homophobic and anti-Semitic culture of Communist Russia. After graduating from the Moscow Law Academy in 1994, he emigrated to Germany, where he first began working as an adult performer.

He moved to New York City in 1997 and launched his own production company a year later. Lucas Entertainment quickly grew into one of the largest and most respected gay studios in the world. Today, the company’s office occupies 5,000 square feet in the heart of NYC, and has produced more than 300 films, which have been honored with dozens of industry awards.

One of the few adult-entertainment personalities to achieve crossover attention in the mainstream media, Lucas has been profiled in such publications as New York magazine, The New Republic, Vice and The Village Voice. His columns on social and political issues appear regularly in The Advocate and Out, and he has spoken at dozens of universities, including Stanford, Yale and Oxford.

Lucas has used his notoriety as a platform to advocate for causes he cares about, including civil liberties, LGBT Rights, and sexual health. Among these issues is his unwavering support of the State of Israel. In 2009, he became a dual citizen of the United States and Israel. (He renounced his Russian citizenship in 2010 to protest the country’s repressive policies.)

A longtime supporter of HIV prevention and education, he gained attention in 2013 when he became the first public figure to openly promote the use of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, or PrEP, for the prevention of HIV. He appeared on HuffPost Live to discuss the issue.

In 2012, Lucas founded Lucas Documentaries, through which he has directed and produced two nonfiction films: Undressing Israel: Gay Men in the Promised Land, about LGBT life in Israel; and Campaign of Hate: Russia and Gay Propaganda, which sheds light on Russia’s recent spate of antigay legislation. Both projects have been screened at numerous film festivals around the world.

As the gay news magazine The Advocate wrote, “Michael Lucas has used the stardom porn gave him as a platform to speak out against drugs, unsafe sex, child exploitation, anti-Semitism, religious oppression of gays, and a host of other social problems.” Bold, honest, and passionately opinionated, Lucas continues to challenge conventional thinking in all of his pursuits.
